With registration for our $2000 challenge presented by CRC Industries now open, we think it's a great time to highlight some previous entrants.

The builders behind this project believed they’d unveiled a piece of Audi history at our $2000 Challenge back in 2004: the first V8 swap of its kind.

The specifics? They replaced their 1990 Audi 90’s inline-five with the 3.6-liter V8 engine from a 1990 Audi V8, the brand’s flagship at the time.

The swap took four months, the team said, plus another four months spent preparing the rest of the car. Unfortunately, a faulty fuel pump prevented them from giving it more than two-thirds throttle during the competition.

Make your own low-buck memories as the Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge presented by CRC Industries returns October 25–26. Visit 2000challenge.com for details.
