What’s with all the extra lights? Dale Perry’s 1984 Nissan Sentra originally competed in the SCCA’s Playboy United States Endurance Cup, the precursor to today’s Pirelli World Challenge. The series debuted for the 1985 season, with radar detector manufacturer Escort taking over title sponsorship duties the following year.
The car sat in a warehouse for a dozen years before Dale found it. It fired right up, he reported. To prepare it for competition, he gave it a repaint and replaced the brakes, exhaust and steering rack. The Sentra’s 17.876-second quarter-mile time at our $2008 Challenge didn’t exactly set the world on fire. Still, Dale managed to revive a cool piece of history and place it 40th overall out of more than 50 entries.
