I saw Alan McCrispin earlier make some runs in a borrowed 944 and just noticed a big old rusty wagon headed towards the grid just a minute ago...
Cars, cones and competition. This week the SCCA hosts the Tire Rack Solo Nationals, one of the biggest motorsports events in the entire world thanks to 1300-plus entrants. The event returns to Lincoln, Nebraska, its home since 2009.
Just some of the big stories from there and here:
We had some grand plans this year, with production manager JG Pasterjak primed to drive our Corvette Z06 in the CAM-S class. Editorial director David S. Wallens and GRM regular Carl Heideman received special permission to drive a 1973 MGB GT in H Street.
And then a tropical disturbance popped up in the Atlantic—and then it quickly escalated into Dorian, a monster of a hurricane. So, David and JG are home with families in Florida as this one looks mean. Those in the Bahamas, you’re in our thoughts.
Despite Dorian’s best efforts, we still have members of Team GRM on site. Carl will be there supporting his sons in a CAM Ford Falcon that you'll soon read about on the pages of GRM. Andy Hollis is running a Civic Type R in D Street. Perry Bennett and Rupert Berrington are taking photos. Later in the week, Tim and Margie Suddard will stop by with our latest find, a Rabbit GTI sporting a Callaway turbo kit. Tim found the car out West, and the drive home happens to go through Lincoln.
The Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo Finale took place this past weekend. Congrats, everyone.
Lincoln Air Park is home to acres and acres of concrete, and some of the paddock area was ground down in preparation for resurfacing. We hear it’s dusty, with respirators being this year’s hot fashion accessory. Super bonus points for those who can work dust protection into a steampunk look.

Congrats to Sticky Motorsports on your Solo Nats cornhole tournament win. Best of luck on the pro circuit.
David Marcus drove a Tesla Model 3 to the B Street win in the ProSolo Finale, while Lauran Campbell finished second in one. Our math shows that four entrants are running the Tesla 3 later this week. Any predictions as to how they’ll do?
So, what does a magazine staff do while waiting for a hurricane? Make magazines! The November issue of Classic Motorsports went to press this weekend. Inside you’ll find restoration tips, Q&A with the manager of Porsche Classic, driving impressions of Derek Bell's Personal Porsche 928, the introduction of our Elva project and much more. The next issue of Grassroots Motorsports is quickly coming together, and inside we revisit a particular race car that we first profiled back in 1988–sorry, no spoilers just yet. When not at the computer, we’ve been boarding windows, cleaning gutters, stashing cars, getting ulcers and preparing for the storm.
According to Amanda Dukes, reporter for WESH-TV, more than 5000 utility trucks are staged at Daytona International Speedway.
Colin Wood, our reader services department, got married this weekend. Mazel tov, Colin and Amber.
Our plans for this coming week are murky. The latest reports from the National Hurricane Center and Mike’s Weather Page hint that we might not get swept into the sea. Still, there’s no guarantee that all of us on staff will have power and cell service all week. Let’s hope it’s not that bad.

Will do; mid way through their heat and they are in the middle of the pack.
Im working the info tent but info is coming in slowly... also, it is lonely here without you guys:
Finally got verified results...
No trophies but not DFL; incredibly close between Jack and Chris. Jack wins bragging rights by a tenth!
Very respectable mid pack times.
CAMC 1ST to 10TH, which are the trophy positions, are separated by less than 7 tenths.
Crazy tight battle at the front.
Walk the courses and study video.
My buddy Jay posted his video from West Course yesterday.
I spent an hour watching it nonstop last night to get the visuals in my head.
