Too far away for me but I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Great cars. I remember Bonduraunt had some with five speeds for training purposes.

AWESOME!

If this was anywhere in the Central time zone I would be on my way to buy it right now!

that would make a great G5 stage rally car....which would also work awesome in Mod2 for Rallycross.

(ooh, cool mental images)

First thing it's getting is a manual tranny.

Okay, maybe not the very first thing, but high on the list.

Wow, cars were really frickin' slow in the '80s! This was in that thread:

From my "Encyclopedia of American Police Cars" :

105.5 inch wheelbase

165 hp 302 FI HO V-8

The V-8 was exactly the same as the one on the Mustang and 25 hp more than the full sized LTD-Crown Victoria. The top speed was 123 mph, higher than any other "pursuit" car available at the time. It won top honors for every category it was put through at the MSP testing grounds. [NOTE: The Michigan State Police since the fifties get first crack at all available police models for sale by the Big Three, and have set up a grueling endurance, speed, and durability test that they put new models through. The results of their tests greatly influence the general sales of fleet-vehicles by most major police departments throughout the country.]

The Baby LTD ran the quarter mile in 17.8 seconds, less than one second behind the Mustang and a full ten seconds faster than any other model.

The Baby LTD and the Mustang shared one fatal flaw; brakes were way too small for that fast of a package and thus brake fade became a major problem on these models. Still, what's a few warped rotors when you have the hottest cop car in the country?

Sadly available for 1984 and 1985 model years only, they were quietly discontinued in favor of the 1986 Taurus police package, a deal that seemed to good to be true (and was).

================================================================

Almost as fast as a Mustang GT, with a 17.8second quarter mile. And the brakes weren't big enough for that "fast" of a package? Wow.

Great idea though, just needs about 200 more hp.

They will run 11.50s with a F303 roller cammed 10:1 5.8L, GT40P heads, Lightning lower and 1994 Cobra upper with a A9L computer with 36lb injectors and a T5 going through 3.73:1 gears.

I am just saying.

I know they have serious potential, and are pretty freakin' cool if done right, but I'm just surprised how slow and underpowered "fast" cars were in the mid-eighties.

I had one of these "baby LTD's" a couple years ago. The car had the straight 6 with a 3 speed automatic. It was ugly and slow, but i got the car for nothing, and it was great. I sort of wish I hadn't got rid of the car, but I needed a tow rig.

I'm completely psyched about it. Thinking brakes first. Mustang aftermarket is so large shopping for this thing should be pretty easy.

Listen, if anyone wants this car, the guy will sell it for $600 to ensure it goes to a fan of the car and their history. He just re-listed on Craigslist for $750. I've been going through a couple back surgeries and impossible to get up to Seattle, I'm south of Portland and I have no family around here or enough money to pay for a shipping transport down. I've been going back and forth with him and this looks like a great car. So if anyone wants a great deal on what looks like a great car... It's available. Just please if you ever decide to sell it shoot me an email.

(And don't tell him I said he'll go down to $600, but times are tough and thought someone here might appreciate the discount, I want to see this car in a GRM Challenge even if I can't be the one doing it!)

I mean, seriously, man. I know you don't like P71s, I get it, though sometimes your arguments are a little unfair. Whatever, no biggie. But this isn't a P71, so why the heck? These are basically four door Mustangs with a 5.0 and that large aftermarket, there were only around 3k of them made, they aren't NEARLY as heavy as the Crown Vics you don't like... Plenty of reasons to like this car, it's so barely even related to the P71s you dislike.

And it's $600.

EDIT: Just saw your reply and I love sleepers so I'm used to people not understanding my tastes, haha, I just saw you start in on P71s and I'm like, did anyone even mention them? This guy's a anti-P71 Jehova's Witness, sheesh..

Hey Duende,

speaking of a 4 door Mustang...

A few years ago, Mustangs and Fast Fords ran an article and pix about a LTD LX that a guy added the front clip of a "slant nose" Mustang to. It wasn't exactly a direct swap, but it can, and in his case, is/was doable.

I think one of the cars Ford should have produced on a Fox-platform, but didn't, was a LTD LX WAGON. I will never understand why Ford produces good/great sleeper/performance sedans, and ignores wagons. Another should have been? A Taurus or Sable SHO wagon....tho I saw one on E-bay a few years ago.

Um, you are taking page 1 out've my projects-to-do book. I remember seeing a picture like that ages ago and my imagination took over from there, I think it's a great looking combination and why not? It's a fun what-if. I'll second the Taurus/Sable/SHO wagon as well, that should have been done and I'd love to have one.

Well, I'll put a SHO engine in SOMETHING one day, anyway.

They DID make a baby LTD Wagon. I used to have one...

Mine was puke tan with the 3.3L I6 and an ATF-puking auto.

I realize they never made a "5.0 LX" version, but that shouldn't stop you from making one of your own!

Meh, an LS1 has more in common with a 351 then a SBC anyways. LS1 LTD Wagon FTMFW!
