1987 Toyota Supra: Non-Turbo, Automatic
Just bought a Camaro, so it's time to make room in the garage. Ye Olde Supra has got to go. Probably would make a good challenge car with a manual transmission (which I just happen to have laying in the garage!).
General: Car is a 1987, and I'm the 3rd owner. Manual seats, auto climate control, cheapo aftermarket stereo. No turbo, no sport package, no electronic suspension. Bought it, fixed it up, used it for a daily driver for about a year. Car blew the head gasket and has been parked for about 2 years now. I'm located in Augusta, GA. It's got 148k on the clock (miles, not dollars).
Body: I bought it with body damage. The previous owner rear ended someone, and from the looks of it, they had a hitch on their vehicle. Front end of the car was stripped down, frame straightened, then the bumper, hood, sheet metal, and structure was replaced by parts from another car of the same generation. The car was then painted flat black. Why flat black? Because flat black is cool.
Otherwise the rest of the body is straight and pretty clean. Interior is very-80s-cool red. Actually in pretty good shape.
Chassis / Brakes: When I bought it, the brakes were shot. Replaced 2 calipers with brand new, put on new pads, and 4 new rotors. The rear shocks were replaced with Monroe’s. Otherwise, it’s stock, stock, stock. Has a new power steering pump installed as well, but needs the o ring replaced on the inlet. I must have nicked it when I installed it, so it leaks.
The car sits on a great looking set of 16” Konig Cobra wheels, which are out of production. They are complemented by a set of Road Huggers with low wear. Yeah, Road Huggers. Don't blame me, they came with the wheels.
Transmission: Toyota 4 speed. Pretty much indestructible. Shifts great.
Engine: 7MGE 3.0l straight six. Suffering from a blown head gasket (typical for this generation of Supra). Engine ran strong, and I parked it because of the head gasket and just never got back to it. I have a head gasket that goes with the car, do not have head bolts at this moment. Slap a new gasket it in, flush the cooling system and this car would be ready to go.
Price: $550 obo as it sits. If I put the effort in to change the head gasket, I think I'd hope for more.
Extras:
I have a garage full of parts that is a study in obsessive compulsive disorder. If your on the GRM boards, chances are you completely understand this disease. Any and all parts are for sale and up for negotiation on price (they are not included in the price of the car). A short list: -1 block -2 heads -1 full rotating assembly -1 extra crank -1 manual transimission, whole -1 manual transmission, in pieces, 2ng gear spontaneously de-geared itself -1 limited slip rear differential w/ 4.30:1 gears in housing -1 front bumper assembly (bumper, front fascia, air dam, grilles) -3 ‘sawblade’ stock wheels -Set of piston rings and bearings (OEM Toyota bits, not cheapos)
And there are a number of old calipers, interior bits, tail lights, head lights, fog lights, valve covers, misc. engine parts.
I’d be willing to work out a package deal for the car and the parts, or I can keep flinging parts on eBay as motivation allows.
Will email pics to anyone who is interested.
