A guy I used to rallycross with a guy that has put his '91 RS up for sale, former national championship winner, $1000.

that looks like about the most fun you can have for $1000.
EDIT: that looks like about the most LEGAL fun you can have for $1000.
i hope somebody here scoops this. I'm two projects deep and can't pile this on, but the want is high.
Just think - you would have a reason to change your name to IsuzuJoe!!

Now you have to do that! Did Isuzu have a 1991-ish livery?

But then you'd have to pretend to be the 1991 factory Isuzu rally team, and does anybody really want that?
I'm seriously considering this. I have contacted the owner and am awaiting some info from him. So learn me guys what do I need to look for. Information is fairly scarce on the internet but the car comes with a lot of spares and most of the things it doesn't come with are shared by the Geo Storm sister car. I'm a bit scared about it having sat for almost 10 years but it was at least in a covered barn.

They are cool cars but there were less than 2000 around when they were brand new and the following 25 years have seen a lot of stuff become real scarce. Rear wheel bearings and cam angle sensors are unobtainium that go for staggeringly insane amounts of money, and you have to fight Lotus Elan guys for the cam angle sensors too. Isuzone.org is the community for these, there is also an Isuzone Facebook group that is full of knowledge despite some of the members being real shiny happy people.
So I texted the owner to confirm I wanted it. Barring anything going wrong I should be on a road trip next Saturday. I figure if the car is just too expensive to TLC there's enough unobtanium in it to make back my money and get a free trailer.
So. Its basically $1000 awd turbo. I've got a strong chunk of money to redo the fuel system, turn up the boost, and bring it to the $2016 challenge.

That sounds like a perfect plan.

More of a fortunate side effect than any actual plan. I didn't really set out to build a challenge car but assuming I get it home next weekend and it seems to be in pretty decent shape I may have accidentally bought a really good starting point.
