So I am excited to announce the special class for 2020 is "Radwood".
To be honest I didn't know what this meant when David Wallens suggested it at the town hall meeting, but listening to his explanation peaked my interest. The radwood car show website sums it up pretty well...
"RADwood is a celebration of '80s and '90s automotive lifestyle.
The car show that blends period correct dress with automotive awesomeness. A period correct event for cars, trucks, and bikes from 1980-1999 that captures the essence of a bodacious era."
What does that mean for the GRM 2000 challenge? Well that's what this thread is for. Let's figure out what we want to do with this broad category and where we want it to go.
I envision it as a place for unique / cool 80' and 90's stuff to play.
Conquest TSI - check!
CRX - check!
5.0 Mustang - check!
Mini-truck with custom paint - check!
Turbo Honda - check!
Really the possibilities are endless.
I guess we need to figure out what we are looking for with the class. Period correctness? Remember LS swaps were not really a thing then. Neither were 200 TW tires.
Let's hash this out and get a rule set locked down so I can start looking for my next project.
I was already thinking of doing a 5.0 sn95. So I'm onboard.
NX2000 is about as Radwood as you can get. Stop thinking about a next project
The EGT will still work as well, so I'm happy to hear this. If someone manages to find BFG color tread tires, they automatically win concourse. When BFG tires were banned in 1999 for being used for gang tagging.

I can't wait to see a lowered isuzu pup battle it out with a fiero based testerosa...
Neons. First gen.
Fast and the furious body kits.
Pretty much all the E36 M3 we wanted in high school and couldnt afford.....
Oh yes. If this doesn’t convince me to make it down there then I don’t know what will.
I think my Neon is out of challenge budget so should I bring the big Olds wagon? Is there a sub-subcategory award for “slowest boat?” Heh.
The Mazda heart in the Escort I just dragged home has mucho potential too!
In reply to Patrick :
I suspect someone will have some 80s and 90s GRMs around to see what tires TireRack was promoting in full page ads at the time. It's my opinion, which isn't worth much, that the period correct TireRack advertisements to the target market that were in the publication should dictate the spec of tires that are allowed. If they have autocross Hoosiers, then so be it. If it's all nitto drag radials and Comp T/As then so be it.
I'm ok with slicks but I do feel engine swap should be period correct.

You have reminded of a steaming pile of Cadillac sitting in the front yard. I'm going to soend too much time thinking of a bad idea now.
We might have a 1G CRX or twelve lying around....

I think Hoosiers would be class appropriate, but for ultimate baller points a set of r1's or a008's would be a must have.

I agree, a period correct swap is the way to go. What is the consensus on that?
For example a Honda civic with a b or h series swap is in but a k series is a no go.
A 302 in a volvo would be appropriate but an LS not so much.

What would GRMers do in the 80s or 90s. I think any swap allowed as long as it's a 90s or older engine. Want to put a FWD 70 Cadillac 500 in the hatch of a CRX then go for it. Want to SBC swap the same car and convert it to RWD sure. Basically build it with a 1999 GRM mindset.
I might have to break out the CF-48s--that, ironically, I bought from pimpm3.
Ah blinged out S600; 90s rap inspired?
Or mafia inspired s600?

Show up with a 1/4 tank of gas in a 97 E Class. Get last place in the autocross, but it's still fly.
