I knew of a guy about ten years ago who converted his 4-door mid-80s full size Oldsmobile into a pickup. It looked awful and bowed slightly in the middle. The "bed" was a welded-in steel box. Bodywork, such as it was, was exquisitely bad bondo.
He lived in an apartment complex. All "bodywork" was done in the parking lot, much to the annoyance of neighbors (especially when he was hammering metal at 3am).
