Long story short:
1999-2000ish a member of camaro forum offers a 78 el camino free if taken soon. He is local, i take. Free car, whoo!
get home, rot holes in chassis. Total pile. I keep shifter, hood, junk the car for $0 because scrap was so worthless i had to almost beg the junkyard half a mile from my parents to not charge me to tow it away.
shifter is a really old b&m quicksilver that mostly still functions aside from sometimes getting stuck in neutral and has no trim, indicator or knob. Cable is burned by an exhaust tube. Has been in dad’s barn since I pulled it.
Is it free take me at my word, is it fmv(if so what? I bought a complete boxed new old stock one for $50 shipped from the parts classifieds here), do i hunt down the guy and ask for a receipt for a car he gave me 19 years ago?
Depends can I have the $50 one? I need a shifter.
$0 on the old and busted one.
$0 w/ pic, Lol, A Car Has to have a Shifter No Charge.
I Wouldn't care what you use Unless Ronnie Sox Is Shifting for ya!
Got to have a Transmission too,
Just, D B A D Right!
As long as you don’t win $0...... else $2000. J/K $0.01.
In reply to AnthonyGS :
Not trying to win. Next year different car, yes we’ll be aiming high. This year is for me to build for me.
I agree $0, but might be good to hunt down that forum post, so you can prove the car was free to the public when offered.
It honestly doesn't matter, because it's the Challenge and no one will doubt you if it's in the budget as $0 and you have a story. But if you wanted a bulletproof budget sheet to prove all the internet armchair-mechanics wrong, that would be how to do it.
Per your description, I'm not sure free is cheap enough.
