Twin Stick? When I hear that, I think of a Rambler with two floor shifters, one for the trans and the other for the overdrive unit.

Sure does! It must sell gasoline?
If I lived in Tampa and could spare $850, I'd buy it.

AWD? Obviously my knowledge of older Japanese cars isn't what it should be.

Nope, FWD. I've never driven one, but am familiar and have always wondered what the ratio difference is - one could effectively have an 8-speed if they ran each gear through in both ratios. In my old turbo EA82 Subaru, for quick launches I would start in lo-range and slip it into hi at the top of 3rd gear for a little extra oomph.
This one sold for lots of dough. It is sweet looking car!!!! I wish I could have got it.

Is it an overdrive or a 2-speed differential? Whatever the case, not a bad idea.

Does it Really?
I mean I totally Understand the concept.
But I don't get why.
Why would I need a low range FWD vehicle?
I think you'd get a "normal" ratio for quicker acceleration around town and a "highway" ratio where the fuel economy is more important and acceleration isn't as big of an issue.

I was referring to the "what" and "how" aspects. "When," "where," and "why" would have to be ascertained by driving it.

I agree completely. What a strange strange strange concept. Oh the Japanese..

Why does a dog lick himself?
Because he can.
Had a buddy with a non-turbo 5 door of same body style. Really cool. In HI, you could get off the line with a little clutch feathering, and 4th was like an overdrive 5th in most cars. In LO, it would roast 'em off the line, and into second (maybe a chirp in third), and fourth was what you'd expect. He usually started out in LO, got up to fourth, then went to HI. I never drove it, but it looked fun, handled decent, and got great gas mileage. Add a turbo, and I officially want one. Nice styling package, too.
Drove a friends twin stick. Entertaining as all get out if you use all the gearing. It was like driving an 8 speed close ratio box. In reality you were supposed keep in in low for city driving and high on the highway. You only gain about 3 mpg. It went through clutches like fish go through water though.
