my only question is not "why would you do that?" I can get that part, and I appreciate it.
MY question is why is it an automatic?!
Swap the 3.0 for a 3.8 supercharged model, converted to a turbo. Or put a 3cyl back out front. Motor around on that till you need more power. 
Why not automatic? Shifting gears will be one less thing you have to worry about as you slide backwards into a tree.
60 v6 is a good start... could swap in a trans from a fiero fairly easily i'm sure and you could easily move to more powerful 60v6 options... GM even did a turbo version back in the early 90's...

bahaha... ok I missed that the 3.0 was a 90* doh... yes 3.8 SC all the way...
