I did the labor for a CRX K swap (12ish hours worth) in my home garage in exchange for the following before reading the 2020 rules that do not state one can trade labor for parts.
"Built" D16z6 short block claimed to be professionally built. Notched block, Standard length Eagle rods, 9.5:1 JE Pistons, ported oil pump, posted with a CSS.
I pulled it apart over the weekend it's TurboTough (ebay rods before anybody thought to say ebay rods) rods, Vitara pistons, an oil pump ported only by the chunks of bearing that have gone through it, destroyed crank (crank was bent when the thing was put together) basically it's a mess. Rods are salvageable but not desirable, pistons are well crap (I know this isnt a popular opinion amongst cheap turbo honda people but wanting 7.8:1 compression either means your turbo is too small or you dont know how to tune) block is okay but it has a cheapie tap in block guard not a CSS
"Built" D16y8 head this is as described largely. Unknown origin stainless valves, Bisimoto springs, Delta regrind,
Used but intact Comp solid hub 4 pad clutch and steel sfi flywheel
Insane shafts "500hp" axles
Broken non-descript hydro clutch D series trans with some sort of LSD (torsen/Quaffe/OBX style)
P28 ECU with a million year old S300 V2
I was planning to budget this at PA min wage for the time spent obviously substantially less than the value of the parts but well I asked and the guy said yes so I feel it's legitimate. That said I feel like the don't be a dick rule trumps all others so what say the huddled masses as to what this stuff is worth?
I'm not too into the D series world anymore but I'd say the ecu is worth $300ish?
Then rest maybe $400? Just for the LSD, cam, valvetrain, and clutch. The rest is pretty worthless.
Sounds like it's a headgasket, bearings, crank, and turbo kit away from 400+hp.
In the other thread about this, Tom stated that labor-for-parts trades are now covered under the exchange rate clause

Don't get too carried away here. If you pay for something with your labor, then the exchange rate rule would apply:
"Exchange rate is calculated on a per-item basis when you do the deal. It's "how many US dollars or their equivalent did you hand over for the part.”
I read this as you are still good to claim local minimum hourly wage as your currency, so you don't need an FMV as long as you have documentation of the deal.
Sounds like a killer deal to me-not a dick if you have documentation. Feel free to send those worthless rods and vitaras down my way though =P
I'd probably sell the v200 for whatever you can get to zero the whole thing out and just chip it. The chip kit from moates is something like 16$ against your budget and the guys at Honda Tuning Suite are doing active development for the obd1 Honda stuff again.
^ bringing yours back? Email me your address I'll send a care package your way. orphank24@gmail.com

Agreed.
So you didn't break his heart... his achey breaky heart.
I couldn't stop myself. I tried. I really did.
I'm surprised it took someone that long to get there honestly.
Let's take bets as to what the worst possible thing that can happen to a super janky 500hp 1500lb crx is.

I'd have gone Toni Braxton on your ass....
In reply to Byrneon27 :
I've seen you bust your ass all weekend to get a car to run at the Challenge only to DNF. Don't think it could get any worse.
In reply to Byrneon27 :
Email sent-let me know what you want for them, othewise I'll FMV the care package before it makes it on the CRX.
As long as this CV-19 stuff clears up I'll be there. Crusty is in the garage right now getting prepped for a rustoleum paint job. This may not be the year I drop $ for A7s, but the challenge is too much fun to stay away.

I've seen YouTube of a Honda shooting the flywheel out the front like a giant saw blade.
If you time it just right maybe the flywheel could trip the lights at the end of the 1/4 and knock some time off your best drag pass.
