Yeah, grab a cheap 8.8 and some slicks, maybe just radials, you'll be fine. I have no doubts that motor would survive a 200 shot. You'd be rolling up to the Challenge in a 500hp+ 2000lb Corolla. If that's not a recipe for success, i don't know what is.
The car wouldn't do well at anything else, of course....

Absolutely. Been done. There's one in the Knoxvegas area with dual sidepipes a la old Stingray. It's glorious.
I think you guys are looking at this wrong. All your plans involve throwing away the good shell and keeping the crap motor. Why bother buying a whole car with a bad motor when a running 1UZ can be picked up cheap all day long. The SC is basically a Supra in a Tux. Its a great chassis. That car is begging for either a junkyard 1UZ to make a cheap DD or some other evil swap to make it a monster.
I was more looking at it that the motor is probably fine. Rip it out, replace the gaskets, and sell the shell for $1000 again for a free motor. The car itself is not a good challenge choice, but a free 1uz is ALWAYS a good choice.
But yeah... i'd kinda have to agree with you. I see 1uzs at the self service yards here constantly, for under $200.

Hahah, i'm sure if you got a good deal on one, stripped and sold every interior and a/c bit, and put that money into suspension, it would do pretty well.
I've seen running and driving ones under budget for sale.
I'D do it, but i like the idea of stupid cars at the challenge. This is about what you CAN do for $2010, not about what you SHOULD do. It's not that much money, in the grand scheme of things, do something stupid.
Why do you think i'm bringing a rare FWD crapbox? It isn't because i'll hook up at the drag strip and cut a respectable time, i assure you.
Besides.... the $2010 Challenge Lexus has a nice ring to it. Has anybody brought a Lexus yet?
There you go.... someone buy this Lexus, then trade the body to Clem for his Corolla. Bonus points if he can come up with a Wagon to stuff a 1uz into.
HA! I put two up here for 900 for the pair, and no takers. one was nothing but a rolling shell, but the other ran and drove, albeit with a ferocious knock.
Wow, thats a great deal. I have been known to pick up every cheap SC I see, its a good thing for my bank account that this guy is so far away from me!

Pull the engine and transmission and add a Nelson inspired small block /th350/narrowed 9" rear.
Tune then go hunting.

People have done single digits on the Supra IRS. Same stuff under the SC.
