NHRA requires a 5x12 inch wind deflector that is metal or fire proof.

If I were to go with Lexan I would be essentially replacing the entire windshield- there's a 95% chance that I'll need to drive the car down to the competition vs. towing it (a 14-hour drive), so having just a small deflector wouldn't be a lot of fun and I'd almost certainly get pulled over if any cops noticed it.

Maybe the best option is to try to DIY it, to avoid the large budget hit. 

As long as you get it in without breaking it then you can get off on the right foot with the insurance company and have a clear conscience if you need to file a claim for a replacement down the road.
