Digging the 411; we had one in high school Driver Ed to teach chilluns about the third pedal.

Can you tow dolly that with the rear tires on the ground?

Errr, that's not a 411 but an earlier Type 3 aka VW first attempt at building and selling an overgrown Beetle.

The difference in Type 3 to 411/412 is fuel injection?

My buddy's got a 2.0 914 engine hanging around....

Enginewise, it's mostly the FI, but the 411 aka Type 4 as per your link and the Type 3 are two completely different models.

Enginewise is completely different actually. The T3 motor is based on the T1 beetle block with pancake cooling. T3s mostly came FI in the states with the excpetion of the mid 60s cars.

The T4 is based on the T4 (porsche 914/late bus) block, much beefier block and nothing exchanges between the tow
