FMV for battery

I got an optima yellowtop (dated 2012) gifted to me from my neighbor.  He got it from the local dump site.

He was able to throw it on the charger and rejuvenate it.

I would prefer an FMV of $50.

Core charges are like $20 at autozone/advance/O'Reilly so I'd go with that.

Oriellys locally will give you $15 for any battery returned to them if you're buying a new one or not.

Feels like an inside deal to me, hence why I posted it here.

I have a $180 battery in the budget that I thought would work.  It sucks.  I have exchanged it 3 times for a new one.  It can sit disconnected for 24 hours and drop voltage.  I reached out to the neighbor to see if he had one I could borrow.  He brought this one over and said I could have it.  

Since it wasn't a publicly available deal, I want to be above board on this transaction.

$20 sounds like a good compromise between core charge and what a junkyard may charge.

i'll agree with $20 but i would have agreed with lower.

I believe that is a confirmed 4 forum members at $20 and 1 confirmed at free.  That covers that.

Said neighbor tried to convince him that $0 is what anyone pays when they gather others garbage and make it useful. Out of curiosity, if I built a lithium battery out of headway cells would FMV just be the cost of the materials? (Cells, filament for spacers, copper, relay, bms).

You wouldn't FMV that.  It would just be in your budget for the cost of materials.
