FREE 1978 Volvo 242 GT. Whole car, "ran when parked", but it has been sitting for several years. 160K, 4spd manual w/elect overdrive. It belonged to my father(no longer with us) and I'd love to give it to someone who could at least use some parts off of it. The interior was in pretty good shape. I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow and maybe grab a couple of pics.

Car is in Dunbarton, NH between Concord and Manch.

Aw man... How much does it cost to get a car from NH to IL?

Seth, I think it would take a lot of work to get it track worthy, even for lemons. Its not a bad idea, but I don't think I could stomache it myself. It would be a hell of a way to go out though. . .

44Dwarf: Its silver with the "Halloween" black and orange interior. This car is a 2.1L fuel injection car. I've only seen maybe 2 or 3 besides this one ever, and they were at import Carlisle years ago.

In Volvo circles its the most desirable "late model classic" Volvo.

I thought that might be you Roger, with that logon.

The lemons team is looking at a newer volvo today for the basis of the team car. However, it needs a new diff. I'm not sure if it would be compatible anyway. Info is on sccv, if you care to look.

That could be fun to have around. If by odd chance you've got it come Carlisle time, and you'd be willing to bring it down, I'd be willing to give it a home.

In reply to derekshannon:

I doubt you could safely drive it anywhere but a trailer, its been sitting for 6-7 yrs now. I'm not up on my Volvo engine codes, but I do know its a 2.1L SOHC FI. I'll try to look it over this week and get a couple of pics.

The most I could see as salvagable right now would be the drive train and interior. I imagine the brake lines and fuel lines are pretty rough, but I don't know for certain.

"Restoration is just a question of money. How rough do you want to start from?"

Roger,

So when you say you can't stomach it....do you mean you would rather it not see that fate? or you wouldn't want to tackle making it a lemons car?

The team has bought another volvo as the primary car. They'd be looking at this as a donor for a new diff and possibly the transmission, and whatever misc parts transfer over. They wouldn't be using the chassis. Apparently that manual transmission is one of the more stout volvo trannies.

In reply to sachilles:

Seth, I guess I mean subjecting it to LeMons at my own hands. I have now qualms seeing it go out with a bang with its chin up and driving scarf blowing in the wind, I just couldn't do it myself.

It would take a true masochist to restore this unique car, and frankly I could think of 2 or 3 dozen other projects I'd tackle first.

I guess I just want to see some of it live on in someone's project rather than just go to the crusher whole. It would be a waste of good automotive bits

emailed you through the grm website.

Could one of our guys call you about the car? If we can, send your phone # to sethachilles at yahoo.com. I won't be able to check my work email(the one attached to my profile for the next few days).

Thank you.
