Wow...instant Challenge car.

You are looking at a car that has been in and out of my life for over 20 years. I drove this car in high school, and took it to college because it was more fuel efficient than my 350 IROC. In 1988 I gave this car to a good friend while we were attending college at Florida State. He drove the car for years slowly modifying it into an award winning stereo competition car. It won many awards, and was featured in many Audio and Stereo Magazines. After he had put as many TVs, Nintendos, Speakers, Amps, and wiring as would fit in the little Mazda, he decided to turn it into a race car. He began by modifying the stock rotary, and then went through several bridge port motors in the quest for ultimate power. The car ultimately ran 10.23@138.9mph on the Bridgeport with an obscene amount of spray, but as many have found, the NoS ate the Wankel's seals at an alarming rate. Consequently, the last motor he put into the car was a brand new street port engine, normally good for around 12,300rpm. The motor was never raced, and the Nitrous was never re-installed, as he grew tired of buying engines. I think after that, he lost interest in the car, and it only covered approximately 1,000 miles before he gave it back to me.

I have now stored the old Mazda behind my shop, in an undercover shed for about 2 years, but it is time to let it go.

The car has a strut tower brace, Headers, 5 speed transmission, a roll bar that is not bolted in, shift light, and the remains of the NOS system that was installed in the car. Make no mistake, this car is a project. You will want to get a new driver's side fender and door skin. Someone backed into it. The car has rust around the rear hatch and the sunroof panel will need to be replaced. THE FLOORS ARE EXCELLENT. I put a battery in it yesterday, poured a little gas down the carb and it fired right up. You will love the sound of the street-port motor when the secondaries kick in. I certainly have great memories of it over the years. We hope it gets a good home

Nasty rotary is nice! I'm thinking slightly exaggerated but nice.

Uhm. Holy E36 M3.

Who wants to go look at this for me? And who can transport for me? Money on hand. Today.

I'm no rotary expert. Is it accurate that this thing could spin to 12k rpm??

Yup. Mine is a 233K mile stocker and it spins 9000. Street Ported jobbers easily do 10-10.5K and a bridge or peripheral can certainly do 12-13K.

And that's really the main reason i want it. It's either a 1st gen RX7 or something 4age 20v powered that will scratch the high rev itch.

Wow. I had no idea.

This would be a nasty $2009 car!

The car is actually in Stuart, FL. That is not to far north of West Palm Beach. Maybe there is a GRM'er in the area that could help you out.

Well hopefully someone sees this thread.... i just got the AOK from the GF, she approves heartily of this car. Might be hard to keep her from driving it if this goes through.

I would start a different thread, specifically asking for assistance in that area. Chances are not good that the right person will see this thread.

While these motors can spin that high. It is not really recommended. Stock ports power falls off around redline. Most streetports around 8ish, bridgeports will rev to the moon.

You have to do some internal modifications like hardened stationary gears to allow them to rev that high with out hitting the housing. I have an RX-8 rotating assembly in mine so I should be good to about 9k. Once it gets tuned and on the dyno we will see when power actually trails off.

Anyhow I might be down in that area soon checking out a Lotus for Andy. It wouldn't be too far out of my way.
