Why wait until the week before the Challenge to begin your car.

Get a head start on the $2009 Challenge and maybe you'll have a chance to win!

I have a 77 280 Z that was supposed to be my son's first car. It was lovingly selected to be straight, true, no crumpled roofline and absolutely minimal rust. It has been stripped and prepped for re assembly but about that time he got his license. You can guess the rest of the story.

All suspension pieces have been taken off, blasted and repainted. All bushings have been removed and I have a complete set of Energy suspension bushings.

The struts have been shortened, Ground Control coilovers, and Tokico Illumina shocks have been installed.

The body has been sanded baby butt smooth and is ready for paint.

I have NOS never hardly been sat in factory seats. I have a new dash with all instrumentation.

The engine was strong & "ran when parked" :)

I honestly don't remember if it is a 4 speed or a 5 speed, but I think it is 5 speed.

Not counting the time, I have well over $4,000 invested in this beauty.

At this stage all you have to do is slap a roll cage in it, drop in the engine of your choice and begin the doll up process. This is almost too easy to be a Challenge car.

Zs tend to be strong contenders due to all the engine compartment room, excellent handling and light weight. Plus there's a world of aftermarket support.

There are enough good pieces to sell off to recoup most if not all of your $$$ if you choose to make it more of a race car theme with a stripped interior &/or swap engines.

I even have a new '04 S2000 motor and tranny with 7 miles on it if you wanted to go that way.

PM me for pics. It is simply too hard to post pics on this forum.

$1,999 OBO (no, the S2000 motor is NOT included)

Won't sell the motor alone, only as a set with the tranny & ecu. We worked too hard to get the right combo together.

The engine is the 2.2 and is from the "infamous" train wreck of new S2000s and only has the miles it took to drive the car on the boat, off the boat and onto the train.

The tranny is an AP1 or from the 2.0 engine. Why the early tranny, I'm glad you asked. The 2.2 engine is the one with "only" an 8,250 redline. The AP2 tranny came with a 5% shorter gearing in gears 1-5 which means you are shifting a lot more often than the AP1 which creates a lot of problems for the guys autocrossing and tracking. The "right combo" is to put the early tranny on the late model engine and vice versa that plays to the strengths of both engines.

The ecu I have is from an '00. Why? 2 reasons, 1) so that you can rev the engine to 9k if you want to and 2) that is the richest AP1 ecu which means it is the early AP1 ecu that more closely matches the fuel delivery needed to supply a 2.2 vs the 2.0 it was designed for. This means you don't have to get a standalone fuel management system, with all the tuning issues, to be able to turn the 2.2 to 9k. What you do need to get the most power is to add a VAFC for the fine tuning. The VAFC is much simpler than any standalone system.

Now the only piece missing to complete the ULTIMATE set up is a cam from the 2.0 engine so that the engine will make more power above 8,000.

Of course if you are going to add a supercharger you don't need the cam.

Oh, almost forgot, the price. This is NOT challenge friendly! Engine, tranny, ecu = $5,250 which is almost $1,000 cheaper than they were going for on the open market when you could find these trainwreck engines. I bought 5 so I got a better price.

Here is an email I got today from a friend. He builds the Ultralite and he has some S2000 engine goodies he wants to sell.

"Hi David, I am trying to clear out some S2000 parts and thought you may know someone or be able to post it on some list for me. Got a beautifully polished S2000 valve cover for $200. 4 S2000 core engines partially disassembled $200. each, 4 good S2000 6 speeds $600. each, plenty of oil pans at $40. each, etc. All these parts are located at our shop in Red Oak, TX. I would like to move as much as I can quickly as I will be gone from Thursday to Sunday ( Run N Gun 2008 ) Best Regards, Brian Anderson World Class Motorsports 972-227-7241"
