I knew I arrived at the right place when I saw one of these:

The laforza, which I had already decided to name HippoFarina, was braying at my eyes in an obnoxious red hue that gave me a headache until I put on my polarized glasses. I have never considered owning a red car before and for the first time in my life imagined what I look like behind the wheel. Since I am generally an ass, maybe anouncing it as such AS I arrive would not alter any outcomes.
The hood was the first issue. It looked like it had been hot-mopped with a drum of bedliner & had 2 thin red stripes of Made For TV Red, still etched into my mind's eye, the ones in my head were distracted by the huge cracks on the leading edge of the hood.
The hood weighs an ass-ton and has only one support, it does not go up very high and and feels like it's going to break off at the hinges. The hood prop is a broomstick that's in the backseat, it's about 18 inches long cuz that's how much the hood opens.
More bed liner has been applied to the wheels and also the lug nuts.
I look underneath and IT'S BEAUTIFUL. Solid & HD as hell....
I need another beer.
The tires were worn but not bald & matched but were old. As they are $100 each and all cars need tires, no points lost.
The body was in good shape, front bumper repainted, cracked in multiple places and were flapping loose on the both sides.
The door handle came off in my hand. The passenger seat front frame is broken, prevented from tipping ALL the way back by rope. Seam split on seat bottom and drivers seat is defoamed and covered.
Headliner is drooping. Interior beat & smells like gear oil. Door panels loose.
The interior is all there but sad. Gear oil smell is the worst.
Damn the under-side is impressive.
Oil is black, thick and low on the dipstick plus smells like oil. ATF clean.
Fires right up. Tach no worky. Loud exhaust.
Need tacos & more beer.
Keep drinking and typing. May become the new nitrous fogger jr thread!
We're waiting... Did they ever use these as the Popemobile? I figure a 5.0 Ford with Flowmasters would echo nice in the Vatican.
So sad. Had high hopes for it.

To wrap it up, I'm sure it'll be a long time before I see another 4x4 in PA that isn't a rust bucket, that I'll regret.
And it will be a long time before I see another Laforza. No regrets there as it didn't do it for me. In person it looks like a giant 1st-gen Kia Sportage 4dr. - But one that could tow over 7k & broke the barrier during crash-testing!
If I needed to tow or haul anything other than me to work I would buy it. I "sold" wife on it as a bargain kayak transporter and it has no gutters or roof rack plus the one piece hatch swings up so I couldn't even pop the glass and stuff the boats in there.
I really want a square Crown vic wagon, non-Chinese volvo sw to drop a 302 into, a flat top conversion van, or any seventies family truckster.
It was just so very red! With the yellow prancing horse stickers on the fenders and the Herculined hood & wheels, I'd have felt like the Fire Marshal at the Pride parade.
So the moral of the story is:
It doesn't matter if liver is on sale if you don't like liver.
It looks like The consolation prize is still available.
