It's harness mount time. I'm thinking about running some tubes from the 2*2 chassis the side impact X to wrap mount the harness instead of doing tabs and bolts.
With tabs and bolts I'm not aware of any real requirements (rules wise) for sizes. Most specify the harness bar over your shoulder but I can't find anything about lap/anti sub.
Obviously anything used has to be strong enough but I'm wonder if 1"x.129 wall DOM on about a 6" span would pass tech? From a strength perspective it's plenty. Would I need to use the same cage spec 1-5/8 if I wrap mount?
I don't know, but I'm using a piece of cage tubing just because all my old race cars were done that way. Since I'm not a great welder it also gives a longer weld at each end .
I don't see anything in NHRA or Schroth installation docs on minimum tube diameter for wrapping. I certainly wouldn't say you need to use 1⅝" tube, but I'd remind you that the NHRA upper seat cross is spec'd at 1¼" minimum.
I have no doubt that 1" tube over a 6" span is strong enough, and we use 1" harness bars in a whole bunch of chassis, for whatever that is worth.
Not a lot of help, I know. I don't think you would have an issue getting thru tech with your planned set up, but I'm just a dude on the internet...
I can double check, I think I did mine to NHRA min size.

Yeah it's wierd because no one would put any thought into some tabs on the 2x2 sides. I'll probably just go that route as the only tube I have is either the 1" or the 1-5/8 and at $6.50/Ft that needs to stay in the shop.
