i was overwhelmed by the swarm of people who jumped on the car to make sure it was ready for tech, before it was even off the trailer at the hotel. i'm probably going to forget a name or two, so please don't be offended if your name doesn't appear until a later post in this thread.

my brain likes to work chronologically, so i'm going to jump in the wayback machine and name everyone i can recall at this time:

David S Wallens for lighting the initial fire

pimpm3 for the parts car

paranoid_android for disassembly and fab

whiskey_business for rear subframe narrowing and halfshaft welding

my buddy Tony (not on GRM) for adapter plate and flywheel fab

my buddy Jay (don't remember his screen name) for shed building, design review, fab, wiring

classicjackets for fab

wawazat for fab and assembly

AAZCD-Jon for the Boxster shifter and cables

Patrick for sawblades, moral support, smack talk, etc

deadskunk for Lexan that hasn't made it onto the car yet

RacetruckRon for Monzora emblems

barefootskater (and so many others) for the incessant smack talk, er, i mean constant encouragement

Gingerbeardman for transaxle info

....

will edit later to include about 3 years in between

...

and now we're at the host hotel:

dusterbd13

quasi mofo

stafford1500

al mccrispin

al's daughter, IIRC samantha?

excesskuma

wvumtnbkr

and i was a bit delirious at this time so don't remember who else.  will go through pix and see if they trigger my memory.

plus, my boss says i have to go to a meeting now.  :-(

more later, i promise.

If it's any consolation, or perhaps retribution for the smack-talk, my V8 swapped challenge car is even further off schedule. And it's still wearing those headers you sent me too.

OK, so i'm scrolling through the entirety of 2 build threads (Monzora and Monzora Redux), and there's a common theme of Stampie's good-natured smack talking, gotta thank him for that. Four years of motivation!

and speaking of motivation, the positive comments and appreciation for what i was doing from so many people on here who are far more skilled than me really helped keep my fire lit.

more later...

I couldn't/won't smack talk without the recieving end being a smack talker themselves.  Thanks for being my E36 M3 talking friend.

Angry, we wanted to make sure you were running and safe so we could beat you fair and square.

Hopefully you don't have to rebuild too much of what we hacked together.

In reply to Stampie and Stafford1500 :

Totally.

I do love watching builds finally making it to the event. Had a good shakedown this year. Can't wait to see it whoop my butt next year.

I'm glad that it got down there, and before I did, I've got a bottle of rye and a bottle of bourbon for you, the bourbon was released about 2 months prior to the challenge, so i did complete it prior, but I didn't get it to you prior. I'll add that Stampie smacktalk is the best smacktalk. I have a non challenge build that I need him to light a fire under me on.

outstanding! it shall be shared at the 2024 event.

and your post reminds me, anyone who took side bets on Monzora not making 2023 should review your T's and C's and pay up to your bettor.

Stampie's middle finger pic in some of your pics is classic.

Oh, you mean this one?

I stared at that the whole way down and back.

You know ... Dusterdb13 has never admitted his role in that picture.  I knew that you were getting those drag tires from him.  IIRC someone was picking it up in Charlotte from him, coming to the Challenge, and then bringing them to you afterwards.  I didn't want anyone to tip you off so I  over nighted that picture to Dusterdb13 to put in with the tires so that no one would suspect.

GameboyRMH for putting up with me thinking he was someone else, and for interior sheetmetal and sealing work.  ;-)

i remember Mr_Asa was loitering nearby for a bit, perhaps he did some work while i was wandering around delirious from sleep deprivation.

i also want to thank the GRM staff for hosting yet another outstanding event.  i may have already said this, but i'll say it again: i'm so glad to have made it back, *finally*!

thanks to GRM for the Wawa gift card. we used it to get a great lunch on the way out of town Sunday afternoon.

thanks to all the event sponsors, especially Trakk Rats for the alignment rig. i hope to put it to good use burning up those A7s this summer.

and thanks to everyone who stopped by for a chat about MonZora, either at the host hotel or at the track. i enjoyed meeting each and every one of you.
