I thought I'd be out here for "just a couple years" but alas, I'm not back yet and my truck is just sitting without a driver. It's a 1987 Toyota pickup, 4wd, 5spd, 22r. She has 300k on the clock, motor and transmission were replaced at 200k, motor starts first crank, runs and drives ok, last time I drove her she got about 24mpg. Gas has been in the tank since March.

The bad side? weeeeeellllllllllllllll when I left the country I wasn't making a whole lot of money and I felt like I had to wrap the truck up in a hurry. The seats are installed poorly, the cab was "Walmart duralined" poorly, and I was in the middle of rattle-canning a paint job (you guessed it, poorly). The "alt light" is on because I wired in a GM 100 amp alternator and never got around to finding a switched 12v source to turn it off. Oh yeah, and one day (seriously, ONE DAY) I tagged three deer while driving on a backroad in Texas. (The first one took out a light, didn't even see the other two coming) What can I say? She was more of a 4wd toy than a show queen.

Oh yeah, and she's been sitting out side this whole time...

The truck is located in Mount Vernon, Washington and the registration/title is good so you can drive her, but I'd bleed the brakes first if I were you. If you wanted to ship, that's cool but you'll have to work out all the details for door to door shipping.

Looking to get $500 for her, but really if you had something interesting sitting around (that is anything besides another vehicle) I'd probably trade you for it (interesting being defined as: 13b-turbo motor, random engine block, Ford 302, Audi transaxle, random turbo, carburetor, set of spark plugs, a smile?... I'm not picky)

This photo is pre-rattle can (obviously) and the truck has a canopy that I used for the haul up to Washington from Texas (right before I left) because I didn't feel like springing for hotels along the way.

Disclaimer: I will cry like a sissy girl if this goes, I'm warning you now. I've had this truck for a decade which is 9 years longer than I've owned any other vehicle... (I don't know how that happened ) I always told myself that when she finally broke I'd fix her up right... and the damned thing never broke

That is a perfect pickup. Wish I could buy it. $500 running 4x4 is unheard of around here.

Ha, sorry for the tease. That picture was actually taken at Cline Ranch near San Antonio. That was a good day. Only stock truck there, and hung with the best of em

Forgot to tell ya, the "rattle can" color of choice was "desert-camo tan" and yeah, it sounded like a great idea at the time (until I finished the first panel)...

If it wasn't in Washington I would have snagged it already. Washington to Florida via backroads sounds like an epic ride though.

Shoot, buy a compass, lock in the hubs and drive a straight line to Florida! What do you need roads for?

Oh, and I think I left a gun rack in the truck for not one but TWO of your favorite rifles :)

Interior shot:

Please keep in mind that this HAS been sitting outside for 2-years now. I'm digging up old pictures as I find them. (none exist of the rattle can spray job... sorry)

I think it's going to take a cross country drive. Most likely mid August if I can convince SWMBO to tag along and join in the adventure.(wait for her to have a break from school) If I can't, probably much sooner.

Should buy a motorcycle and ride it out there. If you can't sell it on the way home throw it in the bed.

Orrrrr, a metro or swift or festiva or something to hypermile on the way out and sell on the way back.

Serious thought-how much is a bus ticket?

Not sure if buying a metro, and trying to flip it would be any cheaper than flying out. WAY more adventure there though.

Not sure, but I'm sure it would take days to get there, like a week or more

It's a Toyota. I don't expect anything to happen to it on the way home. Train and drive? I'd find the cheapest mode of transportation and take it. The shadier the mode of transportation, the higher chance of a better adventure.

And of course, I could still drive it back for you

I think I may of sold her on a cross country adventure, with some light sight seeing, thrown in. Ie round about route home. Didn't think it would happen. All else fails I may have to find a wingman for it, but I think she may be interested in actually doing it.

I'm jealous that you have a wife that would take a road trip in a vehicle she's not familiar with. I have to have something that's proven to be reliable LOL.

Spinout, if for some reason you pass on this can you let me know. My niece just graduated from college in Forest Grove, OR and really wants a truck. This would be a perfect fit for her as she is a serious outdoors person and will now be working on the college farm doing soil restoration research.

Trust me, I do not want to squash your buy, or your road trip (hell, I want to go with you), but if this doesn't fly for you, let me know.

Oh believe me, LOTS of pictures, as well as a trip log most likely. The discussion went from taking roughly 4 days, to a week maybe a bit more last night. She's never left the east coast between southern WV and FL. So, yeah, she had lots of questions and places she wanted to see, and we haven't had a "vacation" together since our honeymoon.

Went from a beeline home to, South Dakota, Missouri (sp?), Hell she mentioned the Grand Canyon at one point. I'm thinking I can get her lost in the badlands for a day or so, she'll be happy. Anyone know if there is still bison all over the place out there? I haven't been in that part of the country since I was a kid.

Bill, you've got an email coming later, going to see how big of a spare parts kit you might think I should bring along.

I think I left an ammo can with some tools and a maintenance manual with the truck though (I'm sure moisture has intruded the box and done its work on the tools over the last two years though)
