Maybe a swift GTi with a blown headgasket and TONS of aftermarket parts? Not sure if I'd let it go for $500, but you are on GRM, so I'd be willing to talk.

Hmmm.... Tell us more (see my "looking for a project" thread).

In reply to stan:the good: headers, cone type air filter, approx 50 k on engine, spare tranny,19 mm rear sway bar, lowering springs and Kyb grs struts, short shifter,F strut brace, enkei 14x6's, 30k on clutch. brand new (suzuki) axles, some new weatherstripping(uninstalled-see below) The Bad: cracked windsheild(low, and out of line of sight), Head gasket blown, exhaust sucks-doesn't leak, but rattles like hell, interior partially stripped, but included, drivers seat foam worn, but could be (barely) saved, Drivers door was hit, and screwed up the front fender, too. I replaced both, but had to weld hinges to tub. Alignment sucks -can be fixed. 1/3 of the car is flat black, but the tub is clean. And finally, this thing suffers from 2 of these car's achillies heels. The tranny needs rebuilding(I have the stock GTi unit that has bad synchros, and the convertible metro trans in it has the same), and the drivers door window is perpetually off track(hence partially stripped interior). This is not complete, but a teaser. I love this car, but $1300 LSD's and the amount of work needed keep me going in circles. Gotta finish my bugeye!
Watch all the craigslist listings in KY and TN. You maybe able to find something with a blown motor or trans.
how about an RX2 with huge flares? it's listed around here somewhere, car is form southern alabama so no rust to speak of
The swift is awesome, but even taking the huge loss on it that I would @this price, I'd effectively be buying time for my other projects. Plus it MUST go to a good home. That's why its not advertised anywhere else. Footnote; this is a shameless plug to keep this thread alive for a while longer. If anybody has questions, lets hear em.
Be different - I doubt no else will have one of these AMC's there:

I know where there sits an 88 NA Supra, siezed engine, auto trans.
Located in Webster County, KY. Which is 45 miles south of Evansville, IN and 50 miles north of Hopkinsville, KY.
