Oh, and yes, I would so rock that Stanza!!
My parents had a tan '86 Stanza Wagon when I was a little kid. The pillarless body looked cool when opened up but even I had concerns about what would happen if anyone ever crashed into us. It was very spacious for such a small car though, it could have fit a third row seat if they had deemed it necessary. IIRC theirs had the auto tranny replaced under warranty. I believe theirs was the FWD version. I still think they should have bought the toyota van they tried out instead.
Here's my modern (2005 anyway) AWD wagon...which might look familiar because it was purchased from another forum member:

We're an odd bunch, that's for true. Still missing my '98:
...but it really lacked everything that was good about the 80's models.
I owned one of these in 4wd trim. As a teenager it was a great ski car, lots of room, decent ground clearance. The body lean made me drive a bit more conservative...which was probably good. If it wasn't for subframe rust and bad (expensive) struts I would have kept it a lot longer.
The ride was downright luxerious when compared to the 87 4wd tercel wagon I had owned previously.
Those Stanzas were kind of brilliant, my parents had one when I was a kid, and I guess my dad's pining over those years cause he just bought a Mazda5!
