Im looking for a cheap v8 parts car for a project I have.

Something like a f100-f150 truck or maybe even a full size ford car. Looking for a v8 and trans that I can drop into my truck and run it off a carburetor.

Im looking for a cheap motor to toss into my 64 f100 so I can just get it back on the road.

IMG_2135

Or a 100% complete motor and trans something I don't have to spend another $500 on tracking down little parts for.

Im going to have to make motor mounts anyway so any motor will really work 289-302-351-460 ect I would even consider a chevy 350.

Trying to spend $500-600 dollars.

So peak over you neighbors fence or stop and talk to that farmer down the road and see if they are willing for someone to haul off the junk truck that been sitting for 5 years.

I know of a 73? Ford truck with a 390. They're asking $500 but it's down here in Jacksonville, FL. Hopefully the guys nearer to you will know of something.

In reply to Stampie: Thank man! I know they are out there just need to talk to the right people. CL has a few good candidates but they are asking to much for them.

Fingers crossed!

Have you talked to tdrrally?

His package comes with an extra engine/drive train. You might be able to talk him into splitting it up. Plus he's closer than Stampie.

linky to his ad in case you missed it.

That's not a bad idea but I don't think I will have time to drive all the way up there.

Any thoughts on SBC vs SBF no bias involved? Iv only messed with the 302's

Might not have to fab motor mounts if you go 302/sbf.

Wasn't there a factory v8 option?

The truck had a 292 Y block in it before that had one mount in the front and two on the back of the block so very different from more modern motors. I want to try and get something newer because the Y blocks don't have a ton of parts floating around. I liked the motor it had some spunk to it but I want something with more parts available for it so a cam swap or rebuild wont be a big ordeal of parts hunting.

If you want parts availability, and cheap rebuild, you can't beat the Small block chevy.

Im gonna have to say magnum 5.9 mopar. 3 wires for injection, automatic overdrive, and durangos are cheap.

Found a few new post pop up on CL and im talking to a guy that has a 302 and auto trans from a 70 f100. $250 and worked when it was pulled but might smoke a little. I think thats worth the risk and I don't have a crossmember right under the motor so I could drop the pan and crank and do a dingle ball hone with the motor still in the truck if I was desperate enough.

Also yesterday afternoon saw a 460 big block and c6 pop up for $500. Been sitting for 15 years. Just not sure if i need or want that big of a motor, it would be fun but way over the top for a shop truck.

Ya but with that thinking every used part would be bad. The 302 in my RX7 would have been the same way but it was perfect.

Picked up the motor, trans, driveshafts everything from the carb to the oil pan.

Not an amazing motor very dirty but its all there even the fan. I saw the truck that it came out of, a 1970 f100 the truck was in rough shape the bed was rotted out. He got it running and driving but ended up parting it out. As long as it runs and shifts im happy. Come on people want $200 for a motor thats been taken apart can't beat that deal if things don't work out I know i can get my money back. Just want something that works for now, I can rebuild it and hop it up later (the 2 barrel won't stay on for long)

Hope to get the photos uploaded soon.

Thanks guys!

Well first hiccup, the C4 has a bolt in yoke not a slip yoke because the truck it came out of had a 2 piece drive shaft. I was just going to put a 1 piece shaft into my truck. So do I add a mount for the carrier bearing? Or have a one piece shaft with a slip joint in the middle like a 4x4 shaft? Or try to find a 4-5 speed manual trans...

I's all ears! Never messed with a automatic trans before.

It's been my experience that manual transmissions are more reliable, and need rebuilt less often. (lower cost of ownership)

This 3 speed is tempting, I would think it would fit a 302 if it fits a 351. But what flywheel clutch would it need?

If there is a place to mount the bearing for the 2 piece Shaft that IS what you should do.

We have a fixed yoke manual 3 speed in the challenge car. Ford often did fixed yoke on longbed trucks. Explorer shaft fit perfectly for us. May be an option for you, may need lengthened.

Skervy, if you're in and around Raleigh I know a guy in Durham who works in a junkyard. Just saying.

It is not me, it is somebody in Tarheel Sports Car Club and who reads GRM, though I don't think they are on the forum.
