Not mine, etc.
Porsche is all original 122K, bought from my co-worker whom has owned Porsches for long time. The vehicle has new battery, complete redone interior seats are perfect. Has had all vaccumme hoses replaced and new hi-perfomance fuel pump installed all fuel pressures checked good, new timming belt has also been installed. The body has no dents, does have some scratches not bad, however they are there (my fault). The tires were like new has been sitting about a year now, the vehicle did run but cant seem to get to rev above 2K wants to cut out?? I am also including another complete engine that came from my buddys Porsche many other parts will go as complete package including spare tubo. Price is FIRM! and CASH NO TRADES PLEASE! Dont waste My Time or yours.
Sooo... bets as to what's wrong with this?
It's not the same drivetrain as a 944 Turbo is it?
Not even close.
944 Turbo is 2.5 liter "half a 928 V8" with a turbo.
924 Turbo is an Audi 2.0 piece of junk with a turbo.
more 924 parts get discontinued every day.
i wonder if this is the same one that was for sale for $1200 last year. That one had the engine out, you had to reassemble it.

I've seen people put the Audi 5 cylinders in these i think... just how hard is that?
An LS doesn't sound like an Audi i5, though.

Audi 5 cylinders are more common in a 944. The 924 4 speed does not like too much power. If you swapped in a 951 transaxle, you could likely get away with it. (not cheap though...)
Honestly, I wouldn't mind one with that crappy 2.0 liter. I would equate a stock 924 to a RWD MK1 Rabbit GTI. They are very much about momentum. Too much power kills the vibe.
Extra parts as well, looks like a good deal really.
Don't mind Maroon, he's a 924 bigot because 924 owners are too ignorant (or poor) to buy from him. The 924 turbo has a 944 drivetrain under it essentially and is the same chassis as the 944.
The Audi 016 FWD transaxle is used in the rear on some of the 924s and on the 944's. The 944 turbo received a slightly stronger gearset and the option for a oil cooler and pump (a very kludgey design, IMHO). This is essentially the same transaxle as used behind V8's on Lambo and GT40 replicas and in Audi AWD cars. Biggest issue is with huge shock loads and heat.
The 924 2.0L is a Mercedes design built by Audi for VWAG used, eventually used in an aborted VW project produced by Porsche. The motor itself is damned strong, but some parts are becoming harder to find (hint: http://garage.ideola.com) and the intake ports were purposely hamstrung by Porsche to keep it slower than the 911's at the time (early seventies) and to make it difficult to fix that without a lot of work.
The 2.0L made 3-400hp in LeMans trim and had to run in the GTP class when they were run. One had a gearbox failure (Porsche 915 gearbox) and the other finished 10th overall I believe.
The turbo motor is an interference design with an exhaust manifold that is prone to cracking and a CIS K-jet fuel system to try and control it. Antiquated to say the least. Most of the problems are CIS related, which there is is tons of information on, but most people only know either carbs or EFI, not much in between.
The Audi 2.0L shares the same basic bellhousing as the later Audi 5-cylinder motors, so a swap is fairly straightforward aside from the I5, being longer, has the mounts in a slightly different location than the i4. The cross-flow head has to be used or it will hit the strut tower.
The narrow body 924 has a slightly higher top speed potential with a trade-off on overall grip due to less track width and less potential overall tire width the weight difference is pretty handy as well. Otherwise, I don't see anything that makes a 944 superior when talking about engine swaps since you'll want to mix and match parts to get the best combo anyway and a 924 is essentially a throw-away item for most anymore.
In reply to turboswede:
Nobody's ever accused me of being a bigot before...
I actually just said I wouldn't mind a 924... That said, I just bought a 944 for 1500 dollars, so I don't see what benefit there would be for spending about the same on a 924...
