My brother has two of those.
According to the research I did for him if you get an early block AMC straight-6 from before they changed the bolt pattern to match the v8s you can rebuild it with your favorite combination of 4.0/4.2L parts and it will bolt right in.
Also, even with the cast iron inline-6 they weigh less than 2800#. And with the flathead 6 they got 24mpg. And the front seats fold down flat with the bottom of the back to make a camper bed.
I've been actively shopping for a two door '50 Statesman if somebody sees or knows of one for sale. Holding out for just the right restoration car for Mrs. Nash and I to do up proper.
