Hrm. I wonder if he'd go lower. I need a non-rusty frame for my '67 ragtop.

I'd actually prefer that over a '66 GTO.

Of course not, but seriously, were you planning on keeping that?

No sir, that car deserves a 455 and a Muncie.

The 350 may be out of a '72 T/A, but the 2-speed is undoubtedly the original Powerglide from the '66 Le Mans. '67 was the last year for the Powerglide (my car has it, unfortunately) and it was replaced by the TH350 3-speed in '68.

In reply to Duke:

I didn't think the 350 was available in T/A's until the late 80's. And I don't know about firebirds, but I had a '68 Camaro with a 2 speed powerglide.

There's no such thing as a "two speed transmission out of a Trans Am". Trans Am's were initially offered in 1969 and if you got an automatic, it was a TH400. Later on (like 1977ish), they offered a TH350. Those are 3-speed automatics.

IMHO, $1k is too much for that car. That's a rusty mess that needs everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, replaced.

Correct.

The Trans Am was not offered with a 350ci anything until 1987.

For all of the serial number decodes here, bear in mind that the guy probably bought something that said "trans am" on it and used that drivetrain. It might not have been a trans am, or it may have been a trans am with a non original drivetrain. Neither of these are hard to believe. It doesn't matter, 455/Muncie/drive as-is.

The 350 is probably out of a firebird. I have an original "Formula 350" as a parts car. In the early 70s you could get the 350 in the base firebird or the Formula.

I have a 455 and muncie swapped into my 72 Firebird. It's relatively stock with just aftermarket carb, intake, and headers. It's not that bad, but after the cam and heads subframe connectors might not be a bad idea.

I was thinking more in terms of dropping that into a rusty '66 Le Mans and "driving as is", like suggested above.

Chester is a beautiful place to visit and walk through town along the Pattaconk River. Nice shops and restaurants.

I lived in CT most of my driving life (so far). Please... do NOT buy this car. There's 48 years of CT road salt packed up under those fenders and not much left on top of them. Just let it rust quietly away... wont take long.
