If it's a top loader like the one on my V-6, the shifter unbolts. Different lengths and angles available for various applications.
Blasphemy, sure.... kinda like it anyway. Jettison the 2.8 (if thats what it is) and add something interesting. How about swapping a Ford 5.0, GM LS, Nissan SR20DET, Honda F20C... the possibilities are endless!
Guessing- 2.8 could be from a '74- '76 Capri. It would have an open linkage transmission. Shifter bolts to the floor. So it could easily just not be installed.
