They really don't have a useful six speed though. Low gear is kind of a stump puller, relatively speaking.

Better than anything shaped like I shoe should get. My '91 never dipped below 30mpg, and I flogged it mercilessly. Of course, it was mechanically 100% and this was 10+ years ago, when gas was still gas around here.

I've had two, both AWD. They both got 27-28 highway. One was manual and the other auto. No difference in mpg.
