1991 Ford Explorer 4WD Manual Trans - Toccoa, GA

The last tenants at my rental house abandoned this truck. There is no paperwork and no key with it and it can most likely only be used for parts.

It has a V6 with the alternator removed (sitting in the front seat). All the body panels are straight, but the paint is very faded. All the glass is good. One taillight is busted. Interior is rough, some door panels are removed. The two rear tires are flat.

I'd like to get $500 for it, but I'm open to offers (trades, too).

Not in your name, no paperwork, and it's an explorer. Sounds like a calling card for trouble. Legal and mechanical.

I suspect he could get a title through a storage lien if he desired. But this is GA where little listed here seems to have a title.

Your tenants didn't communicate when they intended to remove it, what was wrong with it, etc?

I'm beginning to think I could tolerate an Explorer as a "parts-runner/go to the dump" type vehicle and the manual trans. with AWD combo is unusual.....but the no title part is a downer.

I had a 91 Sport with a manual and the 4.0 liter. I really liked that thing.

I meant besides the obvious, of course. Seems odd to abandon a car over a bad alternator when one has already done half the work.

You'd be amazed. Most of the stuff we grab from the towing yard is abandoned. The Boss Hong needed a key and timing adjustment. That's it. That was a NICE car for $100.

I'm not surprised when the PO has made no attempt to fix, but I still suspect this one is more than an alternator, battery, and voltage regulator away from making a grocery run.

How do you know it's not hot?

You might want to run a police check on the VIN before you try selling it.

My tenants were driving it when they moved in a year ago. I guess that doesn't prove it wasn't stolen, but I have no reason to suspect it is.

I am just suggesting you confirm before you are charged with fencing stolen goods.

The fact that it is sitting in your yard doesn't necessarily give you ownership or the right to sell it.

Just a thought.
