Figured I'd throw this up here for the hell of it. This is my old winter beater car. Bought it last fall because I didn't want to drive the Miata through an eastern PA winter. Just found a '96 Volvo 850 GLT wagon I just couldn't pass up, the deal was too good. So the Geo has to go.
5spd. 187,000 miles on it. It ain't pretty lookin'. Dents/scratches, faded clearcoat, etc...headliner is gone. Broke the drivers door handle during an ice storm (it still works, but you kind of have to "pry" at it to open). Still runs and drives, I took it to work today. But it needs attention. Crack in exhaust manifold, sputter at 2000-3000rpm (plug wires or IAT?), needs brakes, when it's really cold outside the alt belt squeals for a few seconds and power steering pump groans. On the good side, has a newer starter. PO said head gasket done about 18 months ago, but I don't have a receipt. I had new axles and distributor cap/rotor put in.
Make no mistake, this is definitely a "beater" for sure. But if I hadn't found the Volvo, I was all set to fix this one. It's a good car. Gets 32mpg. There is some rust on the right dog leg.
Price? Well, I have to admit I bought it for an absolute steal from the PO, who was the original owner. I put it up on CL for $850 to see what bites I get, but I'll entertain offers from GRM members. Don't want to send it to the u-pull yard if I don't have to.
