Is it a given that it needs transmission work to get to 130k? I'm admittedly ignorant on these cars.

The 5 speeds in the early cars usually die very young. Feel free to do some research on the midland transmission. It's also a royal PITA to work on due to packaging for space.

I have an '06 with the Getrag 5-speed with over 250,000 miles. No way that would ever happen with a Midlands.

So the cold weather causing the plug to fail is not the culprit? That's what the posted link led me to believe.

Off to price transmissions. I wouldn't mind a B Mini W...
