What do Subie engines go for these days? Car-part . Com suggests that they aren't cheap. I seem to recall a thread about Subie engine repair, rebuild & replacement a few years ago, and it was mentioned that new Subie short blocks were not terribly expensive.

I got one off car-part.com for $1100 plus taxes (Canadian) this spring. Out of an 2006.
That is pretty clean. A little rear 1/4 rust but not bad.
I'd just pick up a rusty runner and swap the engine in.
You can get a reman short block for around $1000.
You can probably get an entire JDM EJ with harness and ECU for not much more.
No, it wasn't me. I just couldn't swing a trip to Philly this week or it would have been.
