NMNA.
$400.
I think these had the 6.0 Liter LQ4. Warning: High miles.
The early 6.0 is funky, something about the crank flange being longer IIRC. I think this marries you to the 4L80E behind it, though I'd guess TH400 might also work?
It marries you to transmission/flywheel combos that fit small block Chevy. If it has the +.400 crank.
How horrible.

You could get 6-liters in the Express before '03, that is where the cable throttle LQ4s come from.

Brief further reading seems to indicate there's a factory flex plate to run the old automatics, but no factory flywheel for the old sticks.

sorry, i'm 99.995% sure i'm correct on this one. the cable throttle lq4's come from 99-02 trucks.
there are no rounded front express/savana vans with gen3 engines. they had vortec 4.3/350/305, 8.1, or 6.5 diesel. 03 was the beginning of the 4.8/5.3/6.0 van era.
Pat is correct. Up to 2002 all vans had the vortec engines. From 2003 on is when they came with the LS series engines. As for throttle cable'd lq4's, they also came standard in all of the 03' up cargo work vans. I don't know the RPO codes that upgraded them to drive by wire. I think it had to do with wanting cruise control and or Stabilitrak(traction control). I've had a few of both generations, years, models(1500 & 3500). My favorite was still my 05' 3500 cargo with the 6.0L, 80e trans, 4.10 rear, and cable throttle. It drove perfect IMHO. Power in an instant. People say I'm whacky(go ahead its probably true) but my current 05' 3500 passenger van has the drive by wire. I can feel a slight lag from pressing the throttle to actually taking off. Anyone know if that can be tuned out. Maybe reprogram the throttle map or ???
Take care
