I read an article in the latest Hemmings Classic Cars that had to do with best sellers for popular makes and the '51 Cranbrook was THE best selling Plymouth in 1951. Odd, since the Cranbrook name would disappear within a few years ('55 or '56), but for it's (short) lifetime as a trim level, it was apparently as popular as the Bel Air nameplate was for Chevy in the early (PRE '55) years.
THE bodystyle of Cranbrook to buy tho, is NOT this one, but the Cranbrook 2 door hardtop, tho that may not have arrived until '52...not sure if it was '51 or '52.
Hemmings article points out that the styling AND the mechanicals of these cars wasn't anything special, and yet, that's apparently what a lot of buyers wanted....good old Plymouth, solid as an anvil, and just as inspired.
