"According to Road & Track, the Dauphine accelerated from 0–110 km/h (0–68 mph) in 32 seconds."

I'm pretty sure that car came from here. I drove up to look at one that looked exactly the same about a year ago. It was ~$350 IIRC. Engine turned over, amazingly. The front unibody was completely rotting out, collapsing. The front fenders were like bowing inward from it. Perhaps why there's no pictures of the front of this car.

Supposedly these things rivaled Fiats in their ability to disappear into piles of fine powdered rust.

A high school buddy had a nice one (this was the late 60s). It is the only one I ever remember seeing being driven.

Several years ago, I was doing an environmetal assessment on a large tract that was part of a mill village. I found a Dauphine sitting in what was the old mill dump in the middle of a swamp.

I drove one in the 60s and I have no doubt about R&Ts test results.

Way back in the early 90's I drove that cars younger sister, a '72 Renault R10, from Alaska to Pa. A friend had essentially challenged me by saying that I couldn't do it. The car had not run for about 5 years after hitting a moose & had no windshield, 2 tires you could see the tube through and not-shockingly, issues with electricity. It seems the car passed largely underneath the moose with only a busted headlight & shattered windshield, a dent in the nose, and a slight hoof mark on the windshield channel & leading edge of roof.

I broke down in every: state, province, where.

The universal reaction of authorities when they found me changing parts by the side of the road or trying to hand-crank start or push start (easier to push start), after seeing my Alaska tag & license was:

LEO: You are a long way from home.....

etifosi: Yep, & headed to Pennsylvania.

LEO, eying mulleted me wearing camo BDu's & a tie-die t-shirt: Uhhh, good luck.

I'd love to share more but have to get back to work. Maybe another time.................

Drape that sheet metal over a Legend car and I think you've got something.

I know it is the same pcd as a six lug sprinter van. I was going to bolt the 16" wheels to my R10.

I love the look of these

Into the mid 90's there was a guy in town that had a trio of these as a revolving group of daily drivers. They were parked on the street in front of the apartments he lived in. I still look for them when I drive by.

That looks way-cool. I wonder how much and how long it would take the car in the CL ad to get to this point. (I bet even the "A-team" would punt...)

HMM, exhaust headers directly over the fuel cell.... Nope, can't see any issues there!
