Putting this up for sale for my brother (though it used to be mine so i know the details). It's a 78 Datsun 510 wagon with 64k miles and an automatic transmission. Currently the car kind of but not really running. Will only start when it's warm out. Runs fine when it does start.
For being an Ohio car there is surprisingly little rust. The only areas of concern are the bottom of the front fenders, which have holes in them. the front bumper does have a dent in it. The paint, of course, is shot. The interior is pretty nice but could use a good cleaning, as could the engine bay. Has a CD player. Tires still have lots of tread left. Has new pads and rotor on passenger side.
I replaced the distributor a couple years ago when the old one went out. Lights and everything work, i need to double check on the heat next time i talk to my brother, i know the climate control panel was being weird but not sure it ever got fixed. It diesels a bit on shutoff. The battery is also junk at this point.
He drove it right up until it got cold out and the car got moody. It's not a bad car when it feels like running.
More pics can be taken if needed.
$350, located in Dayton, OH.
Good:
I will be in Dayton on Tuesday.
I have $450 cash in my pocket.
I love old Datsun's.
I love old 510's.
Bad:
Industrial Sales in Dayton sucks.
Wrong 510 model.
I have only have $450 cash in my pocket.
Automatic transmission.
Just throw me a decent place to eat lunch instead.
One Eyed jacks Pubburgers in Fairborn right off I-675. Good people, good beer, good food.
Ok, title issue may take a moment longer than i thought to iron out, i'll keep the thread updated.
good people, workday, good food.
sounds great to me - watch for me Tuesday lunch....
Title issue has been resolved.
However, when i tried to start it a couple weeks back i made an idiot move. I've got a mess of old keys and put the wrong one in, it fit and got the car to the on position then got stuck. I got it out but now can't get the real key in. I'll make an attempt to fix if i get the time but don't count on it. Hasn't been started for a few months at this point.
In lieu of this $400 gets it out of my driveway. If you think you can fix it on my spot i've got no problem with a GRM'er wrenching in the driveway for a couple of hours, keep in mind my tool selection is minimal though.
I can take more pics if desired.

Very tempting.
If someone wanted to swap a rotary in on the cheap I have a ran-well-when-pulled RX-7 12a/ 5speed/ driveshaft/ header/ misc stuff also in Dayton.
If 610 fenders will bolt on I could hook someone up with an entire 610 front end.
Parts leftover from my second car, in 1989....
so it runs and drives, just the key issue? any pics of the rust?
cghstang-how much for the 12a?
Runs and drives depending on temperature. Seems like anything below about 40 degrees Fahrenheit gives it trouble. It also hasn't been started since January.
I'll snap a couple more pics of the rust when it stops raining.
Update! Got the key in and the car fired right up. Took it for a ride around the block with no issue. I did forget that the car does diesel after it's shut off. It also creaks and groans like a 32 year old car but that may also be from sitting in the same spot for 6 months.
Since it's running again i'd like to see $400, sorry to keep monkeying with the price.
Jacques
I had a brown 80 with the roof rack and all, except it was a 4 spd. It was one tough little car and I miss it from time to time.

how are the pics coming?
Working on it, i've taken the pictures but now the card reader on the computer is being wonky. Hopefully i can get them up tomorrow at the latest.
In reply to racerboy000:
$200? PM me if you're serious and I'll get you more info, pictures, etc. That goes for anybody.

Jacques, would it "run" to Mid Michigan?
Problem area pics. I couldn't get the picture of the passenger quarter panel to upload but it's in similar condition to the driver's side:
Passenger front fender bottom:
Driver front fender bottom:
Driver rear quarter:
The rust on the fenders does not extend to the body itself.
As for whether or not it's up for a road trip? Depends on how bold you are. Before i sold it to my brother about three years ago i'd just returned from a 1500 mile round trip to Canadia. Of course it promptly broke down upon return but it did make it there and back, Personally i'd tow it but i'm the cautious type.

Also the battery doesn't want to hold a charge. I'm going to attribute it to sitting for over a month with the key stuck in the "on" position. Why i didn't disconnect the battery is beyond me but the damage is done now.
Were you out on the road with this today? I saw a wagon very similar to this headed west (or is that south?) on Rt 4 from Springfield this afternoon around lunchtime. If it wasn't yours, it was the first one I've ever noticed on the roads around here.
Free bump!
Not me, i've never seen another around here either. Don't think many people have since i've had a couple people follow me home to ask about it in the past.
My Dad just dropped off an extra set of steelies with weird hubcaps (no tires) and the rest of the roof rack pieces.
Someone buy it before i have to put it on craigslist!
