69 VW Baja Beetle Bug and Trailer - Turbo Subaru - $1500 (Bolton, CT) Date: 2010-05-17, 1:05PM EDT Reply to: sale-wg9f6-1745289356@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

1969 VW Baja Bug and trailer

Car is not running at the moment. It is loaded on the trailer.

Car has a turbo charged fuel injected motor from a 1988 GL-10 wagon. It is mated to the stock irs transmission with a Kennedy Engineering adapter kit (plate and flywheel) and has a heavy duty Kennedy Engineering clutch and pressure plate. The car also has a high torque starter. It has a 2-1/2in body lift. THIS CAR HAS NO ROT. There is some surface rust on the roof and floors, but is minimal. This car has never seen a salted road. I trailered it every time I used it in Connecticut which was only a couple of times. The car was built for the Oregon Sand Dunes. THE CAR IS IN NEED OF REPAIR AND IS NOT RUNNING IN IT’S CURRENT STATE. The wiring needs a good going thru as I don’t believe there is any spark at the moment. Compression is evident when cranking the motor. This engine can’t have more than 3,000 miles since it was rebuilt in 2000. The car was registered and street legal in Oregon in 2004.

The trailer was built for hauling a race Porsche. It fits the Baja nicely. The tires show some dry rot and both have a slow leak. The lights need going thru and one tail light has a cracked lens. The Trailer is titled and registered in Connecticut. The trailer sits very low and the baja can be loaded and unloaded with out ramps when it is running.

Also included is the transaxle from a early 60’s bus with gear reduction boxes, a 95% complete 1600 dual port engine and a 75% complete 1600 dual port engine.

Car, trailer and parts $1,500

Cool. That trailer sure looks like it sits low.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that trailers used to haul cars (or at least to be registered as such in Connecticut) had to have dual axles and brakes on at least one axle. Otherwise, I think it is a smokin' deal.

I used to use a trailer that had been originally built for a sand rail to haul my Locost around. It looked similar to this one - torsion axle, super-low loading height. It was a nice piece, but couldn't take anything heavier than a race Miata. No brakes, single axle. With the 1300 lb Locost loaded, you almost never noticed it was there.

That is a cool little rig!

I wonder where they hid the radiator.

Kinda wondering that myself. Odd that they didn't post any rear pictures.

from what i have heard, they lay the rads horizontally above the trans, and have some sort of intake duct to it...

I've also seen radiators in the fenders.
