Huh, so Cougar trunk lids would fit on one of those.

That is no land yacht. In its day, it was a mid sized car.

There was a 4-door Cougar. From wikipedia:

"In 1977... The Montego name was discontinued, and all the intermediate Mercury vehicles became Cougars (Ford renamed its Torino line the LTD II). There were now Cougar sedans, complete with opera windows, a lower-line base coupe, and even a station wagon (Cougar Villager), which lasted only one year (1977)."

Haven't seen one in ages... but this is the rust belt.

My grandfather had a '77 Cougar Villager wagon. One year only.

Learn something new every day. I knew that the T-bird and Cougar went from the extended-wheelbase midsize platform ('74-on for Cougar) to the standard one in '77 but I didn't know that they made Cougar the catchall name for Mercury midsizes.

Neat stuff!
