According to a friend, he just contacted the guy, and it is sold already. (for that price it wasn't gonna last long)

Worse, I keep doing it...
"$800 and fixable!? Hmm... D'oh!"
COTA has an auction from time to time selling off their old busses and they apparently go really cheap. But I do not know what engines are in them. I know the transmissions are geared really, really low.

Unfortunately they don't have a ton of info on their site as far as how often the auctions are. But this is what little they have:
http://www.cota.com/Auctions.aspx
Note that you apparently have to pay for and remove the bus the day of the sale! That's obnoxious, most vehicle auctions give you a few days to actually collect the vehicle. For something like a non-op bus you would think they would give you some time.
Nix that, found a PDF from their auction last July and they give you 2 days. Wow, that's generous! At least it's not day-of removal.
Apparently the busses go for $1400 - $1600 based on this article:
http://wosu.org/2012/news/2008/02/29/cota-puts-26-old-buses-on-the-auction-block/
from 2008.
If I hear anything about an auction coming up I'll try to remember to let you know!
Edit: Forgot to mention - the gears are really, really low. Like, 55mph top speed and even at that you're winding it way out. So hopefully your transmission or at least diff gears could be re-used in the new heart.
