Blown transmission. I cannot find a single place online where you can order one of these MTX-IV transes already rebuilt. So your options are either rebuilding it yourself or going the junkyard route and hoping for the best. Or maybe you get lucky and the trans isn't blown but it just has a bad clutch or a snapped axle or something like that.

These cars eat transmissions. From what I remember though, it is the same as all the other 5 speed FWD transmissions of the 90s and 00s. Parts should be easy.

Looks rusty as berkeley too.

They switched to the MTX-75 with the Focus and Contour, and the MTX-75 is weaker than the MTX-IV.

There was a guru in Atlanta named Doug Lewis that did SHO upgrades, but that was some time ago...
