I won't be getting rid of it for a month or two probably, but I've been thinking about selling my daily driver 328i as a Challenge car/donor. I love the engines (M50?) in these things and think it would be a great swap. I'd use it myself, but starting with a car you already own is more complicated and I have another project. If there's some interest from a Challenger, I could be motivated to sell it sooner rather than later. I'm not sure what it's really worth, because I'd say it's closer to KBB poor condition than fair. I was thinking $1500, though. Maybe a little steep for a Challenge car, but I reckon its a fair price for this car. CHALLENGE-ONLY PRICE! You figure out if you can recoup enough to make it worth it.
5 speed
~160k miles
- The engine is more like 130-140k because the original one blew up due to an exploding cooling fan. It has an electric fan now.
- Engine uses some oil.
- Power steering loses fluid over time.
- Smog pump is dead.
- Occaisonally it complains about a slow oxygen sensor, but I have the (expensive) replacement.
- One of the kidney grills is missing, the fog lights are missing, and one of the headlights is getting foggy.
- There are dents and scrapes all over the car. The worst one is on the trunk where I was hit very lightly by an ambulance.
- I think it needs an alignment, but probably some of the bushings are shot, so that would be pointless.
- The driveshaft guibo (rubber coupler) probably needs to be replaced.
- Currently the lcds on the odometer, stereo and clock are dimmed out.
- Sometimes they come back for a while.
- Front rotors are on their last legs, ABS light just came on
- cruise control is inop
- Power seats and windows work.
- A/C had died but works currently after recharging it.
- The clutch and clutch master and slave cylinders are all fresh
- The wheels are the nice 10 spokes that look a little like panasports or minilites. (not 8 like I orginally said.) The fourth wheel is in the trunk with a brand new tire on it.

I'm interested pending pics and an answer to the "can it be driven 600 miles with reasonable expectations of arriving w/o a tow" question.
+1, im totally interested! Raleigh to Atlanta isnt that far... ;)
I drove it here from NH last month while towing my Rabbit. I drive it every day, and regularly take long trips in it. It has never ever stranded me.
sigh Fine. I'll go snap some cell phone pics.
BTW, to be completely clear, this is a Challenge-only price.

That does not leave much room for hot-rodding. Is the interior / exhaust etc in sellable condition? The only way to make significant performance enhancements in the remaining $ is tires and weight savings unless there are "recoverables" of some value in the car.

Yep, but that's the deal. Don't forget you can also recoup money from parts deals or another car if you're doing a swap. Exhaust is good, interior less so, but not terrible.
ill be down to buy in a month or so! Been really wanting to get another E36...
I'd better work on getting another car running, then.
Duke if you pass I know someone on here that will paypal angus a deposit quickly, and he seriously wants to challenge it.
I'll let you know if i will pass it up. For now, I'm all over it like a fat kid on cake!
Man and you're from Mass? If you had just driven it up my driveway and threw me the keys I wouldn't have been able to control myself from handing you the money!
This could be a fun backup car if mine doesn't make it!
As I know full well though (own a '99 M3) these things can get pricey in a hurry! Who gives an E36 M3 about the electronic niblets, the suspension parts are going to make this a very tough Challenger but I'd LOVE to see it!

Ok, there are interested parties who sound serious, so I just have to work out the logistics. I have to get another car on the road so I have something to drive in place of this one. I think that'll be after the 4th at the earliest.
Anyone who's serious, send me a PM with the details of when/how you'd be picking up the car and a vague idea of your Challenge plan. One person has PM'd me. I'll consider him 2nd in line after Duke. Spinout007, have your mystery friend contact me.
possible engine swappage??

Hmmm-then you end up with a E36 shell begging for a swap of its own.
I just sent an email to both of you.
