Seller said: This cool Car was built on a vw drive train and is titled correctly as a 1980 vw bugatti. It has a vw motor which starts right up and sounds great. The car needs some restore work to be driveable because it was left in the weather. This is a Very neat and eye catching replica of a 2 million dollor car. 254- 717-8433

These things have managed to transcend crappy and rise to level of so bad it’s cool. You could have so much fun with this.

Cue someone saying throw an LS1 in it in 3…2…1…

Ever seen one up close? They are awful.

That being said, I almost bought an unbuilt kit about a year ago.

I saw one with a Pinto drive train, not as horrible.

Can you expand on what is so awful about these kit cars? Is it the build quality or ride? I see these kits for sale in Atlanta occasionally and they look like a lot of fun.

seems like the body would be a good fit onto a Locost chassis.

The fiberglass quality is very poor.

What Woody said. I came pretty close to buying one when I saw it locally for $1200 but sitting in it and looking around at it made it clear the quality was somewhere around "guy learning to do fiberglass in his garage and not caring about finish" level. It would be a ton of fun to beat on but I don't have room for 15 cars and it wasn't cool enough to be the one toy.

And specifically to the Bugatti kit, the steering shaft is very whippy, and with you sitting over the rear axle essentially, the ride and handling are very choppy and rather bizzare. No personal experience, just what other owners of VW Bugatti kits have told me.

Is the rear firewall seriously made out of plywood?

What good is a firewall, if it won't start on fire?

In reply to mndsm:

Pending how thick it is, it might burn slower than the rest of the fiberglass

seems like it would be a more effective heater than anything ever put in an aircooled vehicle.

Also, why oh why did they use that chintsy tiny steering wheel? At least get a cheap wood-rimmed unit from a boat or something. Sheesh!

Also, I don't think they really give you much to work with when it comes to finishing the interior. They're basically just a shell.

Looking at the two, the yellow one appears to be of better quality...all things considered.

I really want one of these. I'd paint it rustoleum blue or green and drive the snot out of it.

Still like the Bugatti better than MGTD and '29 Mercedes knockoffs that are in the same vein. Those seem to be a lot more common than the Bugatti as well.

I don't think that the chassis would handle an LSx well, however a 13B...

I'm thinking a KA24DE with clear-coated bare block and plated with engine turned aluminum bits and pieces.
