Not mine and all that.
Kinda tempting.

Agreed.
That could be a Super. In '73, Supers didn't have curved windshield. What really separates a Super is the McPherson IFS.

My friend's neighbor restored a '73 Super with a flat windshield. He couldn't find much info on why or how it existed.
Weird things are out there.

Yep, for a long time, the 4 lug started in 68 (or 67 memory is fuzzy) with the IRS transmission but they kept the torsion front suspension well into the 70s. The beetle and super beetle were offered side by side until (I believe) 75 when it was supers only. As others have noted the early supers were flat window cars but the trunklid is the giveaway.

Thanks for the correction, my memory ain't what it used to be :)
Okay, in the interests in furthering my education in spotting A/C VWs... what's different about the hood? I can't tell the difference.
Super Beetle hood is wide and has vents below it.
Standard Beetle hood is thin and pointy. No vents.
After owning a 74 standard as my first car, I got real good at spotting the supers vs. the standards just by the bumper and lower valance instead of the windshield.
Also, if they were standards and had the big tail lights and no retractable bumpers they were '73s. If they had big tail lights, retractable bumpers, and dual tail pipes they were '74s. If they had big tail lights, retractable bumpers, and a single tail pipe, most likely it is a FI '75. I have never seen a '76 or '77 sedan in person(that I know of).
