This is a great project car. I have replaced the brakes, alternator, and ignition system. It has always started right up, even if it had been sitting for a couple months. Unfortunately it needs a new gas tank, as some water got inside and rusted a hole. I'm asking $1000 or best offer. I enjoyed working on this car very much but do not have the time or money to put into it anymore.

If the rear sail panel is that rusty, go ahead and assume that everything from the battery tray to the rear suspension and firewall is cardboard like.
Shoot for the OBO, not $1k.

I have to be in Hartford next week for work. Here is to hoping I don't have a lot of free time after work.
Thats terrible (the rust). I bet it is about to break in half.
Between the rust on the sail panel (actually, through the sail panel) and the good running but still less desireable 1.8 liter, I wouldn't buy this unless you wanted the mechanical parts and maybe the interior parts.
The 1.8 is much better than the 1.7.
IMHO, I like the 1.8 a little better than the 2.0...it revs a little easier.
I forget, is it the 1.7 or the 1.8 that blows up the heat exchangers and replacements are next to un-obtainium?
I once owned a '74 1.8, they are okay cars, or even nice ones when they are in good condition. When they are rusting above THE part of the body/chassis that most commonly fails on a 914, they are most likely rusting below that panel and therefore that car should be considered as a parts car only...IMHO.
