My challenge car is up for trade exclusively (at least for now) to the GRM community. The #99 1996 SAAB 9000 met my personal goals at the challenge (sub $1k class) and possesses vast untapped potential in more competent hands.
Short Story:
2.3 liter 4 cyl 16 valve dohc intercooled turbo; 215k miles; no smoke, no oil consumption. 5 speed manual, shifts ok, clutch ok. Almost all electronics work except tape deck (10 speaker harmon kardon cd player works well) and power driver’s seat (50% working at the moment) & seat heaters. Partially gutted rear interior. Intrax springs & bilstein struts. T5 suite stage 2 ecu. New rotors. 2875 pounds with ½ tank of gas…
Most of the important details can be found at www.codenamesmith.com although the page is not totally current. She is a solid mid pack contender (I don’t really remember the final results, check them yourself if you care) with room in the budget and plenty of spare parts.
I have no need to rid myself of such an excellent daily driver and proven challenger, simply a desire to move on. She is street legal, registered, inspected, insured and can be driven (or delivered) anywhere with confidence. I strongly prefer a trade for a drivable vehicle in passable condition; cash offers will be considered at a later date.
I enjoy everything with wheels and would entertain any offer that is not just plain broken...
Free bump. Car looks good in real life.

Edited original ad. Also, it does this :
every single time you start it up, in case you have forgotten which car you got into in the morning. Very useful, supposedly worth a few horses at the wheels...
ive been eyeing a few of these lately...Im torn,I want to build up a hot rod S-10 or Tacoma, but I keep finding this kind of boosted nordic iron around town for good prices.
Got nothing to trade, but heres a free bump!
Very clean car, looks as good in person as the photo.
I saw a stock 9000 Aero autoxing in GS yesterday, and it looked surprisingly good.

What about trading it for my Miata plus a little cash from your side?
It is bone stock except for some 14" aftermarket polished aluminum wheels.
I changed all the belts, water pump, fluids, valve cover gasket 2000 miles ago.
The ac compressor popped out on me but I have a replacement one that I will install if buyer is interested. The top is in good condition with no rips.
Paint is in really good condition for the age, I actually have not seen many Miatas with such shiny paint (its RED).
The passenger seat has a rip on the top from some hater cutting it while I parked downtown with the top down.
Ill put some some pictures up if people are interested.
By the way, absolutely no rust in the car, its been in Southern Tennessee all its life.
Only option in the car is A/C, it has manual steering.
Thank you

Tempting proposition, but I will have to respectfully decline. My girlfriend would not welcome a miata into the household and I do not like them enough myself to fight with her over the issue.
Sounds like a good car, good luck with it.

I still have the car and am still listening to trade offers. Frankly, I have gotten good interest from average consumers but I am not motivated enough to release her unto the general population.
I am already shopping for my next project, might need to mothball the SAAB until the $2011 challenge...
Cool car, wish I had the room. Nice of Mrs. tb to pose for the build sheets.

Thanks, but that is NOT mrs. tb. Just a friend, I prefer a little more meat on the bones...

You might just be surprised; I am not afraid to run anything past her. My girlfriend is buying me a 951, it is like I hit the lottery or something...

Last bump; If no one else wants it I may actually have to take this thing down to gainsville again...
Now featuring new 3" catback and recent MA inspection...
aaargggh Id be interested in offering my G20 (click the link in my avatar), but its just got too few miles on it for me to justify the shark jump over to a 200k+ turbo car thats been hustled around the cones in anger before. Personally Id do it in a heartbeat. The G is a slushbox, so a 5 speed ANYTHING is an improvement in my eyes. But SWMBO would collect my man business while I slept and turn it into dog food if I made that trade on my DD.
Good luck though, thats a hellufadeel!

I completely understand... but man I always wanted a g20 and at least my girl would be really happy
fwiw, I am the third owner on this car. The original owner saw it was for sale and wanted to buy it back but I beat him by a couple of hours with my deposit. No sludge, no smoke and no leaks... well the engine doesn't leak but the sunroof...

I still have this car and am still driving it occasionally but I really need to move it soon and so another bump. She just does not fit in well with my future plans, needs a good home...
