I have a one owner(before me) 78 production S model 79 Rx-7 in Sonic Bronze with some custom black paint on the hood, and door bottoms. I bought it back in February from the original owner with loads of paperwork for all the service it got throughout its life. It is fairly remarkably rust free aside from the area around the spare tire that has some rust holes in it due to water leaking in through the three piece IMSA spoiler that was on it. I took it off to see what it looked like under the spoiler, and it was fine, but inside the car it had this rust issue. It is pretty easy to replace this metal in my opinion. The car is currently not running, but that is mostly because I have not had the time or gumption to work on it. It has low miles on it(maybe 60k),and is in good shape for a New England car. The interior is pretty good, but the seats have some rips, and the carpet could use a good cleaning.
The best part is that it is an early production car with the passengers side hood prop rod,no door pockets, gray door handles etc.. It is missing the drivers side mirror, and someone mounted an aftermarket mirror on the passengers side. Plaid interior that is in pretty good shape. I have the stock 13" steel rims for it,but they are really rusty, and I could be convinced to let it go with a set of alloys. Still sporting factory keys, and a cool rear louver that looks like it is made by Chastain, the same company that made the louvers for the RX-3 SP. Also it has an aftermarket moon roof(glass).
All in all it is a good base for a restoration, but is by no means perfect as it sits now. It's the lightest model 1st generation RX-7 ever, and a one owner car with tons of documentation. I will sell it for $800 or BO. Located in Southeastern,MA near Cape Cod.
Pics can be seen here, and I will update them tomorrow with newer, better pics.
