SOLD!

It was bound to happen. My dreams of a running, ultra-reliable V8 powered Miata have crashed in a ball of fury. I bought this as an unfinished project with the intent of running it in the $2009 Challenge. We didn't make it then and the recent birth of our first child have put a damper on making it to the $2010 Challenge. So I'd rather get rid of it ASAP to give the next team enough time to finish it. I really want to see it at a Challenge.

It's a '94 Miata w/ ABS. The body is in decent shape. It's got a recent paint job but a lot of small dings in every body panel. There's some rust around the window frame and the gas tank area. We gutted the car and were in the middle of removing the non-essential wires. It has a the larger rear end from a T2 RX-7. I purchased a set of used KYB adjustable shocks and unknown manufacturer sway bars for it. It also comes with a bolt-in Autopower roll cage from a spec-Miata. It needs a windshield as it was cracked when I bought it, so I removed it. If it's shown in the pictures, then it comes with the car.

The 5.0L and T-5 tranny is out of an '89 Mustang. We tore it down, cleaned it up and put it back together. I spent a lot of hours porting and polishing the heads, though I don't claim to be an expert. The thermactor plugs were removed and it was gasket matched on both exhaust and intake. The engine comes with a brand new clutch, new water pump and new gasket set. The oil pan has been notched and subframe cut and welded. We also cut part of the firewall to move the motor back as far as possible.

The first set of pictures was our documentation of how we got it for the challenge. The last 8 pics or so are the car in it's current condition. I've got about $1900 in to it, so it was going to be difficult to make the Challenge anyways. I'll take $1500 firm. That should leave plenty of room to make the Challenge. I can help with delivery almost anywhere in Florida. The car is in Orlando.

First I must say I am upset with myself for clicking on this thread, that is now compounded with loathing myself for clicking on the picture link only to find the color combination I prefer with 80% of the engine swap I want to do on a Miata.

I know everyone says this but if this car were in Michigan I would be there at 8:00am picking it up.

Bump for a pretty car at an awesome price.

In reply to John Brown:

I must make a clarification: The car is not really black. It's actually a really, really deep purple with a whole lot of metal flake in it. But it's only really noticeable when it's clean and in the sun.

That is too bad, it makes it even more awesome.

If anyone is interested I have a red shell with good windshield, no rust, and a clean title I would sell for $150 to help someone with the above project. I am in Gainesville, FL 32607 less than a mile from I75.

BTW-get a separate receipt for the cage in the above 5.0 car to knock the challenge budget buy in price down a bit.

Contact me at PTJoshMiller at Gmail dot com if you are interested.

The current pictures say 1000 words...

engine: cooling, electrical and fuel system, hydraulic clutch, driveshaft, tranny support, diff. support, exhaust

interior: dash reassembly, seat mounts, install cage

suspension: front sway bar mounts

Oh yeah, I already depowered the steering rack too (FM method)

I'm not going to buy this car.

However, I will be in Orlando next week, am willing to bring a trailer, and am willing to get it as far north as north GA, if it helps anyone out.

This car needs to stay in the family.

If all goes as planned this car might find a home with me and Steve (Debbie's husband) as our Challenge project.

Mofo feels that all will be well with the world.

Went and looked at the car yesterday. Steve and I are strongly considering it based on our skills (or lack there of). So we just need to figure out if we have the necessary know how to finish it and will be letting him know this week.

Patrick is a stand up guy and everything on the car seems solid. Most of the stuff is apart as seen in the pictures but everything appears to be there. Like he said it needs the wiring, plumbing, reassembly and exhaust work. There is way more in parts alone than he is asking. If we fall through I would recommend the car to anyone who feels confident in their abilities because it is most definitely worth it.

Do it. An ABS-equipped Miata shell is a good starting point for an Autocross car, and your RX-7 needs the 5.0...

I'll help turn wrenches, I swear...

Any chance this includes a title or is it off-road only?
